Frequently asked questions
What size is a business card?
It depends where you are. India and most of Europe use 85 ร 55 mm; the United States and Canada use 3.5 ร 2 inches, which is 88.9 ร 50.8 mm. They are close enough to look similar and different enough that a US card will not fit an Indian cardholder. Pick the one your market uses.
What is bleed, and do I need it?
Bleed is extra artwork beyond the trim line โ usually 3 mm โ so that a cut which lands a fraction off still leaves no white edge. You need it if a background colour or image runs to the edge of your design. For a card with a white border you can ignore it. Commercial printers will almost always ask for a PDF with bleed, so print to PDF rather than to paper and send them that.
Why is my text getting cut off when printed?
Almost always because the printer scaled the page. Set the print dialog to 100% or "Actual size" rather than "Fit to page" โ anything else changes the physical dimensions and the cards come out the wrong size. Keeping text at least 4 mm from the edge protects against ordinary cutting variation.
Does the QR code work offline?
Yes. It encodes a vCard directly, so a phone camera reads the contact details straight from the code without fetching anything. That also means the card keeps working forever โ a QR pointing at a short link stops working the day that link does.
