Check a UPI ID is correctly formed and see which payment provider the handle belongs to.

Runs entirely in your browser β€” nothing is uploaded

A UPI ID β€” properly a Virtual Payment Address β€” is an identifier, an @, and a handle that says which payment provider holds the account. This checks the structure in your browser and names the handle where it recognises it, so @ybl reads as PhonePe on Yes Bank and @oksbi as Google Pay on SBI. One thing it cannot do, and the thing that actually protects you, is confirm the address exists: only the payment app can do that, which is why the name it shows before you confirm is worth reading every time.

Frequently asked questions

What does a UPI ID look like?

name@handle β€” an identifier, then an @, then a handle. The identifier is often a mobile number or a name, and can contain letters, digits, dots, hyphens and underscores. The handle is letters only and identifies the payment service provider: @ybl, @oksbi, @paytm, @apl and so on.

What do handles like @ybl and @oksbi mean?

They identify which provider holds the address rather than which bank holds your money. @ybl is PhonePe routed through Yes Bank, @oksbi is Google Pay on SBI, @paytm is Paytm Payments Bank, @apl is Amazon Pay. The same person can have several addresses across different apps, all reaching the same account.

My handle was not recognised β€” is it wrong?

Probably not. New handles are added regularly, so this reports an unfamiliar one as unrecognised rather than invalid, and still checks the structure around it. If the format is right, the address may well be perfectly good.

Can this check whether a UPI ID exists?

No, and no offline tool could. Verification happens inside the payment app, which queries the UPI network and shows you the registered name. Reading that name is the real check β€” a structurally perfect UPI ID belonging to the wrong person will take your money just as readily as the right one.
