Frequently asked questions
Is this a real applicant tracking system?
No, and neither is any other free checker. It applies the checks recruiters and ATS parsers commonly use. Every ATS behaves differently, so treat the score as a prompt to improve, not a verdict.
Why does it want numbers in every bullet?
"Cut build times by 40%" tells a hiring manager the size of what you did; "improved build times" does not. Numbers are the single fastest way to make a resume more credible.
Should I add every missing keyword?
Only the ones that are genuinely true of your experience. Keyword stuffing gets past a parser and then fails with the human who reads it next, or in the interview.
Which file formats can it read?
PDF, Word .docx, plain text and Markdown. Everything is parsed inside your browser — the file is never uploaded to a server. The extracted text is shown to you first, because that is roughly what an applicant tracking system pulls out, and anything that reads oddly there is worth fixing in your layout.
Why can it not read my .doc file?
The pre-2007 .doc format is a binary Word format with no dependable browser parser, so reading it would produce garbled text rather than an honest result. Open it in Word or Google Docs and save as .docx or PDF — both work here, and both are what employers expect anyway.
My PDF uploaded but no text came out. Why?
It is almost certainly a scan or an exported image, so there is no text layer to read. That matters beyond this tool: an applicant tracking system cannot read it either, and a recruiter searching their database will never find you. Export a text PDF from your word processor instead.
