Frequently asked questions

How is total experience counted?

Each role is counted inclusive of its last working day, overlapping periods are merged so they count once, and the years and months split uses the average calendar year of 365.25 days. An employer may differ by a day or two.

Should I include internships and freelance work?

Include them if they were substantive and relevant โ€” but be ready to describe them as such in an interview. Freelance work that ran alongside a full-time job is counted once here, which is how most employers treat it.

Do career gaps matter?

Less than most people fear, and far less than an unexplained one. The tool lists gaps so you know which ones will be asked about and can prepare a straight answer.
