Frequently asked questions
How many bricks are in a square foot of wall?
For a 9-inch wall with standard Indian bricks and 10 mm joints, roughly 11 to 12 bricks per square foot of wall face. A 4.5-inch partition is about half that. Thickness matters more than anything else here.
Does the mortar joint really change the count?
Yes, noticeably over a large wall. A 190 mm brick with a 10 mm joint occupies 200 mm, so the joint is 5% of the length. Going from 10 mm to 15 mm joints removes a meaningful number of bricks โ and weakens the wall if it is done carelessly.
How much wastage should I allow?
About 5% for breakage in transport and handling, more if the bricks are hand-made and vary in size. Count what actually arrives: short deliveries are common enough that a site count before the last load is worth the time.
