Frequently asked questions
Why did my transparent background turn black?
Because JPG has no alpha channel, so something has to be painted behind the image. Most converters default to black; this one lets you choose, and defaults to white. Pick the colour that matches wherever the image will sit.
Will converting PNG to JPG make the file smaller?
For photographs, usually dramatically — JPG discards detail the eye is poor at noticing. For screenshots, logos and flat-colour graphics it can actually get bigger and visibly worse, because JPG smears the sharp edges those images are made of. Keep those as PNG or convert them to WEBP.
Does converting lose quality?
Yes. JPG is lossy, so the conversion throws away information permanently. Keep the original PNG if you may need to edit it later, and convert a fresh copy each time rather than re-saving a JPG repeatedly.
Is there a file size or number limit?
