What mileage should I use?
Your own measured figure, not the brochure one. Advertised mileage comes from a standardised test cycle and real-world figures run 15–30% lower, more in city traffic. The Car Mileage tool works it out from a tank-to-tank measurement.
How much does air conditioning cost in fuel?
Roughly 5–15% more fuel in city driving, less on the highway where the engine is loaded anyway. At highway speeds, running the air conditioning usually costs less than the drag from open windows.
Is driving cheaper than a train or a cab?
